TEA AND A TRUTH BISCUIT BLOG

A hand-drawn portrait of Jake the dog wearing his plaid bandana, captured with tender detail and used in the Tea and a Truth Biscuit blog post “When Love Breaks You Open.”

Tea and a Truth Biscuit: When Love Breaks You Open (and Why That’s the Point)

The other day, my doorbell rang — and honestly, I almost didn’t answer it. You know those moments where you’re in your own little world, navigating life, love, and whatever sh*t the multiverse has thrown onto your path for the day?

But I opened it.

And there stood my neighbor… holding a hand-drawn picture of our boy Jake. Not a quick sketch. Not a casual doodle. A full, soulful drawing — his wise old eyes, his wild little tufts of fur, his beloved bandana — all captured with a tenderness only someone who sees him could create. (Thank you, Michelle!)

It stopped me cold in the most beautiful way.
This tiny act — this simple, human gesture — cracked my heart wide open and reminded me why we’re here. Why any of us are here. Because in a world obsessed with speed, strategy, and “looking put together,” there are still people who pause long enough to create something from their soul… and give it away with no agenda.

That drawing wasn’t just a picture.
It was a Wisdom Nugget delivered right to my f*cking doorstep.

It reminded me how blessed we are to share this planet with creatures who love us with full-body devotion — and with humans who recognize that love and reflect it back to us in unexpected ways. Pets have a way of softening our edges, slowing our breath, and reminding us that life is so much bigger — and kinder — than the bullsh*t we pile on ourselves.

And yes… Jake is in the final pages of his final chapter.
Writing these words feels like swallowing shattered glass.

But Holistic Scaffolding™ has taught me to hold the whole damn cornucopia of feelings — the joy, the grief, the awe, the fear, the tenderness, the heartbreak, the gratitude — without trying to shove any of them away.

Because love isn’t meant to be tidy.
And endings aren’t failures.
They’re alignments.
They’re openings.
They’re invitations to feel it all without running.

So today’s Truth Biscuit is simple:
Let your heart break open.
Let love wreck you and remake you.
Let people surprise you with their goodness.
Let the moments that hurt also remind you how deeply you’ve lived.

Jake has been one of David’s greatest teachers — not because he tried, but because he existed. Because he loved. Because he showed up every day in the most honest, unprogrammed way possible.

And for all of it — every day, every lesson, every ounce of love — I am grateful.

I love all you people.
Love and ((HUGS)),
Laura
